What Therapy Feels Like at Embark

Therapy at Embark is collaborative, relational, and paced with intention. Rather than pushing for insight before you’re ready, we focus on creating a supportive environment where your nervous system can settle and your internal experience can be explored safely.

Sessions are structured enough to provide direction, yet flexible enough to honor your lived experience. We emphasize consent, choice, and emotional regulation, recognizing that meaningful change happens when you feel grounded and supported—not rushed or overwhelmed.

Trauma-Informed, Nervous System–Aware Therapy

Many concerns that bring people to therapy—anxiety, emotional dysregulation, addictive behaviors, trauma, life transitions, and relationship challenges—are connected to how the nervous system has adapted to stress or past experiences.

Our therapists offer trauma-informed therapy that looks beyond symptoms to understand the underlying survival patterns shaping your responses. By focusing on stabilization and nervous system regulation, we help reduce reactivity and support greater flexibility, resilience, and emotional safety.

Integrating Skills, Insight, and Healing

Care at Embark is individualized and responsive. We draw from evidence-based, DBT-informed and trauma-focused approaches to support both immediate relief and long-term healing.

Therapy may include processing, developing, and/or strengthening:

Your care evolves as you do—there is no one-size-fits-all path. If you’d like to explore these topics further, we invite you to visit our mental health resources and blog.

Collaborative Care Within a Group Practice

As a group therapy practice, we value collaboration and continuity of care. When appropriate and with your consent, we coordinate with psychiatrists, primary care providers, and other professionals to support comprehensive mental health treatment.

We believe integrated care strengthens outcomes and supports healing beyond the therapy room. And our approach is shaped by the clinicians behind it—learn more about our team and values.

Fit, Scope, and Ethical Mental Health Care

We are committed to providing ethical, responsible care that prioritizes your wellbeing.

  • Certain conditions may not be appropriate for telehealth-based therapy.

  • Therapy for adolescents is offered on a case-by-case basis.

  • If another level or type of treatment would better support you, we assist with referrals and resources.

Our goal is always to help you access the care that best fits your needs—even if that care is outside our practice. If you’re curious whether this approach may be a good fit, you’re welcome to reach out through our contact page.

Trauma Recovery

Strategies intended to help you move from survival to resilience.

Trauma doesn't just live in your memories; it lives in your nervous system and changes how you experience the present. Whether it stems from a single overwhelming event or years of chronic stress and attachment concerns, trauma reshapes the way your brain and body respond to the world around you.

The impact of trauma can make you feel like you've lost your internal compass. However, the brain is remarkably plastic, and the body is built for healing. Embark therapists support that healing by using evidence-based techniques. At Embark, we don't just talk about what happened; we work to help you feel safe in your body again. By combining EMDR and somatic awareness, with the goal of helping to shift out of "survival mode" (fight/flight/freeze/feign/flop) and into a state of calm. You aren't just processing the past--you are retraining you brain to respond to the present with stability and agency.

When treating anxiety at Embark Therapeutic Services, LLC, the goal is often to move from "fighting" the feeling to "understanding" the signal. Once the signal is understood, we utilize evidence-based techniques to untwist unhelpful thinking styles while improving nervous system regulation and cognitive ease. In counseling, we often use the Window of Tolerance to describe our "optimal zone" of anxiety arousal. Our goal isn't to get rid of all stress (which is often not possible), but to widen our "window" or ability to handle it. When we stay inside this window, we can function effectively, manage our emotions, and process information - even if we are feeling stressed or challenged.

Behaviors that feel impossible to stop are often serving a profound purpose: They are attempts to numb pain, regulate a chaotic nervous system, or survive a moment of overwhelming distress. When we view addictive patterns through a trauma-informed lens, the shame begins to dissolve, making room for real change.

Our work at Embark focuses on the curiosity of the 'why' behind your coping strategies. We don't just focus on the behavior itself; we address the emotional disconnection or physiological dysregulation that fuels it. We focus on the 'how'—how to identify the triggers that drive the urge to escape, how to build sustainable new regulation tools, and how to cultivate a life that no longer requires those behaviors for survival.

Life transitions—whether they are chosen shifts like a career move or unexpected losses like the end of a relationship—are rarely just logistical changes. They are profound identity events. Every 'new beginning' requires us to navigate the grief of what we are leaving behind. Without the tools to process this loss, we can feel stuck between a past that no longer exists and a future that feels unrecognizable.

At Embark, we help you navigate these thresholds by honoring the grief of your previous chapter while building the foundation for the next. We provide a space where your story is held with dignity as you develop the self-awareness and strategies needed to adapt to your new reality. Our work focuses on the 'how'—how to process the grief and loss inherent in change, how to implement new skills for navigating identity shifts, and how to rediscover yourself with a profound sense of internal trust and safety."

Life Transitions, Identity & Loss

Providing a space to process the grief of change while working toward strategies for adaptation.

Our earliest relationships create the blueprint for how we experience trust, intimacy, and conflict in our adult lives. When these foundations are marked by inconsistency or disconnection, it can lead to relational patterns that leave us feeling anxious, guarded, or misunderstood. Healing attachment wounds is about more than analyzing the past; it is about building the self-awareness and strategies needed to create secure, authentic connections in the present.

At Embark, we act as a secure base for you to explore these blueprints without judgment. This is a collaborative space where your story is held with dignity as you uncover the 'why' behind your relational habits. We move beyond insight and into action: helping you build the self-awareness to catch reactive impulses, the tools to communicate your needs clearly, and the strategies to foster connections rooted in mutual trust and safety.
