The Mission: Why Embark?
The "Why" Behind the Name
We didn’t choose the name Embark by accident. In a field often defined by clinical jargon and heavy labels, we wanted to return to a fundamental truth: Healing is an active, intentional journey. Our mission is to provide a steady compass for adults who feel they’ve lost their way in the fog of anxiety, negative and fluctuating moods, trauma, and addictive behaviors. At Embark, we don't just "treat symptoms"—we partner with you to reclaim your agency and build a life that feels authentic, stable, and worth living. Our values guide the way we practice—learn more about how we provide care.

Our Approach to Mental Health Therapy
Honest. Person-Centered. Restorative.
We believe that effective therapy requires a balance of high-level clinical skills and deep human empathy. Our approach is rooted in:
Diagnostic Clarity: We don't guess; we assess. Our background in diagnostics ensures we understand the "why" behind your struggle so we can build a map that actually leads to change.
Collaborative Partnership: You are the expert on your life. We are the experts on the tools. Together, we navigate the terrain.
Evidence-Based Stability: We utilize proven techniques like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help you move from "survival mode" to long-term restoration. We also have formal training in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Meet Our Team
Hi, I’m Laura. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon (L7193), and I’m passionate about supporting individuals as they navigate life’s challenges, transitions, and moments of growth. I believe therapy works best when it’s collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in trust—and I strive to create a space where you feel genuinely heard and supported.
My approach is client-centered and strengths-based, drawing from evidence-informed practices to meet you where you are. I value curiosity, openness, and flexibility in the therapeutic process, and I work alongside clients to build insight, resilience, and practical tools that fit their lives—not just in theory, but in real, everyday moments.
Outside of my work as a therapist, I’m someone who feels most grounded when I’m outdoors. I love spending time in nature, mountain biking, and going for long runs to clear my head. At home, you’ll usually find me playing with my Golden Retriever or being thoroughly entertained by my three cats. I’m also a bit of a foodie and enjoy exploring new restaurants, cooking, and discovering flavors from different cultures. Traveling and reading are longtime passions of mine, and lately I’ve especially enjoyed sharing new experiences—big and small—with my young daughter and seeing the world through her curious eyes.
If you’re considering therapy, I’d be honored to walk alongside you on that journey.

Bethany Douglas, LPC, NCC, CADC-III
Licensed Professional Counselor, Addictions Specialist
Hi, I’m Bethany, and I’m really glad you’re here. I’m a licensed professional counselor in Oregon (C5250) with over 14 years of experience helping adolescents and adult populations identify their distress and navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI), addictive behaviors, relationship challenges, and related safety concerns. I approach therapy as a collaborative, compassionate process—one where we work together to understand what’s going on and build tools that genuinely fit your life.
I’m a native Oregonian, and connection—to people, place, and purpose—deeply informs how I show up as a therapist. Outside of work, I love exploring the outdoors through hiking and camping, getting lost in a good book or a challenging puzzle, and working with my hands through creative woodworking or gardening projects. I’m also a mom to a curious toddler, which has given me a deep appreciation for patience, humor, and the beautifully imperfect nature of growth. Cooking, spending time with friends, and learning from others are some of the ways I stay grounded and energized.
If you’re considering therapy, I’d be honored to support you.
